Interferometric imagers need to measure the phase, modulus, and spatial frequency coordinates of the complex coherence factor to reconstruct images. However, these three measurement parameters are accompanied by certain measurement errors in the actual imaging process, thereby affecting the quality of the reconstructed image. Based on the checkerboard integrated optical imaging system, we simulate the influence of measurement errors of the complex coherence factor on the imaging performance of the integrated optical interferometric imager. The simulation results show that, on the premise that measurement errors follow the normal distribution, the modulus measurement error does not significantly reduce the quality of the reconstructed image, whereas the phase and spatial frequency coordinate measurement errors have a great impact. When the mean value of the phase measurement error is 0, the standard deviation must be <0.18π to ensure the high quality of the reconstructed image. For the measurement error of the spatial frequency coordinates, when the standard deviation of the lenslet position errors is <0.075 times the shortest baseline length, its influence on the quality of the reconstructed image is acceptable. The simulation results are of great help to the engineering, manufacturing, and application of integrated optical interferometric imaging technology.

.Based on photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology and synthetic aperture technology, the advanced technology of segmented planar imaging, which can be used to realize ultrathin and high-resolution imaging, is proposed. We develop a sampling lens array structure that combines coherent detection and traditional imaging; it can improve the sampling of low- and medium-frequency information. Based on the proposed lens array structure, a full-chain simulation model of the segmented planar imaging system is established. Under the premise of similar imaging quality, compared with the existing sampling lens structures, the proposed lens array has a simpler structure, lower processing difficulty, and lower cost. The simulation analyses of the duty ratio of the lens array, the light splitting number of PIC arrayed waveguide gratings, and the radius of the single lens are carried out. The simulation results provide a certain reference value for the optimal design of the segmented planar optical imaging system and further prove the advantages of the proposed structure.

Structure Design and Image Reconstruction of Hexagonal-Array Photonics Integrated Interference Imaging System

The photonics integrated interference imaging technique has attracted intensive attention because of its superior imaging performance and structural compactness. Traditional architecture designs of the photonics integrated interference imaging systems are of radial patterns and rectangular patterns. Due to their large lens intervals, the resulting frequency distributions are insufficient to satisfy the Nyquist sampling conditions. In this paper, a new structural type of hexagonal arrays is designed, which has a dense lens distribution. Two paring methods are developed for the radial baselines and lateral baselines, and they can be selected according to the actual frequency bands of interest. The optical performance of different arrays is analyzed, and the hexagonal array is proved superior over the radial pattern and rectangular pattern in terms of point spread functions. A reconstruction algorithm based on the compressed sensing theory is proposed to restore salient images from insufficiently sampled signals. A measurement matrix consistent with the structural design is applied to avoid data regridding. Experimental results demonstrate that the imaging resolution is improved remarkably with respect to the original images.
