Synthetic Modulation of a Chemosensor Affords Target Metal Ion Switch from Zn2+to Al3+

Abstract: The paper describes how synthetic modulation of a chemosensor can be utilized to obtain altered selectivity of analytes. A series of chemosensors were designed by changing the alcohol arm length, from ethanol amine (H2SalEt) to propanol amine (H2SalPr) to a combined one i. e. 3‐amino 1, 2 propanediol (H3SalPd) / ring system, benzene to napthyl ring analogues (H2NapEt, H2NapPr and H3NapPd) and screened for selectivity towards specific analytes. H2SalEt was already reported to sense Zn2+ selectively. The generat… Show more

“…Such chromophore is absorbed in FT-IR as functional group represented by absorption band occurring at 1597.61 cm -1 and 1400.77 cm -1 which is characteristic of C=C stretching of aromatic/benzene rings causing the absorbance spectra. This observation is comparable to [7]. The second peak absorbed at λ max 361 nm was due to non-bonding electron or lone pairs electron on the oxygen atom (carbon oxygen double bond or C=O) which is characterized by absorption of UV-VIS light at a lower frequency, lower energy and higher wavelength as a consequence of electron jump from non-bonding orbital to anti bonding orbital commonly referred as n→π* electron jump which is in agreement with [8].…”

“…Furthermore, we have framed one input and one optical output-based YES and NOT logic gate with BPMP and BPMP-Al 3 + complex as input, respectively, and two chemical inputs and one optical output-based INHIBIT logic gate with Al 3 + ions and PA as chemically encoded inputs and corresponding photoluminescence as optical output. The present BPMP-based chemosensors are found to be excellent in terms of selectivity and sensitivity compared to others available in the literature toward detecting Al 3 + ions (Table S2) [11,[66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82] and PA (Table S3), [83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93] respectively.…”
