Synthetic generation of DSC‐MRI‐derived relative CBV maps from DCE MRI of brain tumors

Abstract: Purpose: Perfusion MRI with gadolinium-based contrast agents is useful for diagnosis and treatment response evaluation of brain tumors. Dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MRI and dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI are two gadolinium-based contrast agent perfusion imaging techniques that provide complementary information about the tumor vasculature. However, each requires a separate administration of a gadolinium-based contrast agent. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the feasibility … Show more

“…Other advanced techniques to quantify vascular permeability with focused ultrasound studies include DCE MRI [38] and contrastenhanced (CE) T1 digital subtraction maps [39]. Dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MRI also allows for quantification of blood volume, flow, and vessel size [40,41]. These imaging studies can be incorporated into clinical trials to evaluate mechanisms of action.…”

“…Malignant tumor tissue magnetic susceptibility at baseline under normoxia is correlated with the corresponding susceptibility reduction under hypercapnia. By contrast, necrotic tissue and edema regions do not have dramatic changes in paramagnetic shift (119,(130)(131)(132). Others Many other diseases also show brain lesions and can be specifically diagnosed with MRI, such as sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.…”

“…Two types of perfusion modalities, dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE), are used to generate realistic relative cerebral blood volume (RCBV). The CGAN is trained on brain tumor perfusion images to learn DSC and DCE parameters with a single gadolinium-based contrast agent administration [150]. AGGrGAN in [151] is a collection of three base GAN models-two variants of deep convolutional GAN (DCGAN) and a WGAN that generate synthetic MRI images of brain tumors.…”
