Synthetic Analysis of Geoinformatics Technologies for Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Methodological Approach

Abstract: Currently in Transylvania there are over 600 castles, considered monuments belonging to the world or national heritage. Some of them have disappeared, some are in an advanced degradation, the vast majority being in different stages of degradation, but recoverable, through very expensive investments. The first condition for them to start a program of recovery and put them again in the tourist and cultural circuit is to know exactly the state in which they are, to evaluate the costs. The development of geomatics… Show more

“…Research in the field of cultural heritage is proving to be more and more complex, increasingly using knowledge from other fields, which reflects its interdisciplinary nature. Modern technology, which proves a very fast and wide development, is extremely useful in the field of cultural heritage research because it offers a permanent technological support in the activities of documentation, conservation, 3D reconstruction, promotion (Betti et al, 2021;Carnevali et al, 2019;Herman et al, 2020;Martín-Lerones et al, 2021;Nistor et al, 2011;Rădulescu et al, 2021;Sun et al, 2020;Xiao et al, 2018;Xu et al, 2021).…”

“…In recent years, modern technology has been used more and more frequently as a tool for documentation, accurate monitoring, digitization, conservation and promotion of cultural sites among the general public (Jo and Hong, 2019;Herman et al, 2020;Martín-Lerones et al, 2021;Nistor et al, 2011;Rădulescu et al, 2021;Tache et al, 2019).…”

“…Technology, methods and procedures This cluster covers different technical methods and solutions involving drones playing a particularly prominent role, such as the rehabilitation and conservation of cultural heritage. Techniques such as photogrammetry using drones have enabled researchers to assess the condition and restoration costs of global and national heritage sites to be integrated as tourist attractions (R adulescu et al, 2021;Sestras et al, 2020). Photogrammetry is also ideal for mapping hazards related to geomorphological processes in tourist destinations (Ferrer et al, 2017;Fugazza et al, 2018).…”

“…These transformations of urban space are the result of global neoliberalization and are planned as alternative measures of urban development [54][55][56][57]. Functional conversion projects occur with higher frequency in the historical area of cities in the process of urban regeneration due to the presence of a significant number of unused buildings, which are in different states of conservation [5,53,58], but also as a result of the cultural attraction of the historical area exerted on tourists [53]. Urban historical centers are cultural tourist destinations due to the presence of civil and religious architectural monuments, museums, street structure [5,[59][60][61][62], and "third spaces" (cafés, libraries) [53,60], as well as traditional retail markets [63] or quality of services [64].…”
