Synthesizing executable models of object oriented architectures

Abstract: The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has mandated the development of Command, Control, Communications Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Architectures to support the acquisition of systems that are interoperable and will meet the needs of military coalitions. This paper provides a general description of an architecting process based on the object oriented Unified Modeling Language (UML) that includes three phases: analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. It then provides a r… Show more

“…'PN models' and 'event graphs' are network models. However, the model structure can look like fairly complicated by using the network models, even for small scale systems (Wagenhals, Haider, & Levis, 2003;Yaroker et al, 2013) Moreover, networks mainly show the causality by arcs. Hence, these models cannot simply show certain aspects of the system structure such as hierarchy or commonality.…”

“…Class diagram is one of the most utilized graphs in OO modelling by using UML. Class diagram describes a system structure with respect to decomposition hierarchy of classes and their relationships (Acheson, 2010;Bennett et al, 2005;Booch, 1994;Wagenhals et al, 2003) Thus, this research suggests modeling the logical architecture of a CES by developing the class diagram of the intended CES. SysML involves modelling with blocks instead of modelling with classes.…”

“…Navigation proceeds from the context instance to the required targets of CALLOPERATIONACTION. 7 An alternate notation is shown in Figure 8. A completely class-based decomposition would show just the classes that are navigated through, for example, COMPANY and FULFILLMENT, but this will not tell exactly which instances are the targets of messages, unless the type of the properties are unique in the root class.…”

This will be covered in a later article.…”
