Synthesized soliton crystals

Abstract: Dissipative Kerr soliton (DKS) featuring broadband coherent frequency comb with compact size and low power consumption, provides an unparalleled tool for nonlinear physics investigation and precise measurement applications. However, the complex nonlinear dynamics generally leads to stochastic soliton formation process and makes it highly challenging to manipulate soliton number and temporal distribution in the microcavity. Here, synthesized and reconfigurable soliton crystals (SCs) are demonstrated by construc… Show more

“…Microcombs generated via parametric oscillation in high-Q micro-resonators, are promising optical frequency comb sources, as they offer a large number of wavelengths in integrated platforms. Significant advances have been made in microcombs, leading to a wideband, compact, high-energy-efficiency (even battery driven operation), turnkey and mass-producible comb sources for WDM-based ONNs [173][174][175][176][177][178][179][180][181][182][183].…”

“…In addition, the coexisting CW component can cause soliton long-range interaction with each other and lead to perfect soliton crystal generation in Fig. 3 [53][54][55][56][57][58] , without the help of avoid mode crossings since our FFP microresonator is single-mode. The interleaved weak-intensity comb lines (peaks indicated by orange solid circles in the insets of Fig.…”

“…Due to the emergence of noise in the generation process [8] , the early microresonator frequency combs showed low coherence, and their application value was not expected. In recent years, with the discovery of dissipative Kerr solitons [9] , stable and fully coherent soliton microcombs can be obtained in microresonators by simultaneously balancing gain and loss, as well as dispersion and nonlinearity [10][11][12][13] .…”
