Synthesis, X-ray structure and spectroscopic investigation of an eight-coordinate cadmium(II) complex

Abstract: 2005) Synthesis, X-ray structure and spectroscopic investigation of an eight-coordinate cadmium(Reaction of 4-methylimidazole-5-carbaldehyde (L) with cadmium(II) nitrate (M : L ¼ 1 : 2; EtOH) yields a novel eight-coordinate mononuclear complex, [CdL 2 (NO 3 ) 2 ]. X-ray structural analysis indicates that the Cd(II) ion possesses what can be described as a double coordination sphere. The inner coordination sphere is pseudo-tetrahedral and consists of four atoms, N(1), N(11), O(21) and O(42), with bond lengths r… Show more

“…The Cd atom exhibits a distorted dodecahedron environment with Cd-O(L 2 ) and the Cd-N bond distances are slightly shorter (mean 2.357 Å) than those measured in 1a, likely for the lower bulkiness of nitrates, which present an unsymmetrical coordination. 24,25 having coordination bond distance values in agreement with those reported herein. In the crystal lattice, the monomeric units form a 2D polymeric layered supramolecular stucture parallel to the crystallographic bc plane through intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the carboxamide N-H fragments and nitrate anions (Figure 3).…”

“…1 (i), the coordination geometry around Cd(1B) in CdN 2 O 6 core resembles distorted triangular dodecahedral geometry, which is comparable to cadmium di-2-pyridyl ketone complex [Cd 2 (NO 3 ) 4 {(py) 2 CO} 2 ] [21]. Whereas the polyhedron of known octacoordinated Cd(II) complexes are tetragonal antiprism [22], dodecahedron [23], irregular polyhedron with the double pseudo-tetrahedral geometry [24], highly distorted square prism [25] and transition between dodecahedron and tetragonal antiprism [26]. Two adjacent distorted triangular dodecahedral CdN 2 O 6 cores are linked through 9,10-bis{(benzimidazol)methyl} anthracene ligands (Fig.…”

“…The Cd( ii ) coordination environment in 4 can be also described as a double coordination sphere due to the significant variation in the Cd–N and Cd–O bond lengths. 54 The inner coordination sphere consists of four N-donors with shorter bond lengths (2.260–2.307 Å), while the external coordination sphere is composed of four O-donors with longer bond lengths (2.621–2.873 Å).…”
