Structure D 2000 Synthesis, Structure and Properties of SrAu3In3 and EuAu3In3 -New Indides with Gold Zig-Zag Chains. -The new title compounds are synthesized by induction melting of the elements (sealed Ta tubes, 1400 K, 5 min; 900 K, 4 h) and characterized by powder and single crystal XRD, SEM, 151 Eu Moessbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. SrAu3In3 and EuAu3In3 crystallize with a new structure type in the orthorhombic space group Pmmn with Z = 2. The Au and In atoms form three-dimensional [Au 3 In 3 ] polyanionic networks with distorted hexagonal channels in which the Sr or Eu atoms are located. Au atoms without Au-Au contacts and gold zigzag chains exist within the networks. EuAu3In3 shows Curie-Weiss behavior above 50 K. No magnetic ordering is detected down to 3 K. -(MUTS, I.
