“…Zemea ® is made through fermentation of corn glucose and actually is used as a humectant, emollient, and natural solvent in skin and hair care products and as a solvent for botanical extraction and dilution . The other bio‐based chain extender known from the literature are 1,9‐nonanediol , 1,4‐butanediol, 1,6‐hexanediol, isosorbide . Hill and McEwen described two‐step method of 1,9‐nonanediol from oleic acid.…”

“…Charlon et al synthesized the full bio‐based TPUs in a one‐step bulk process using different HSs, which contained BDO and ISO‐ isosorbide and 2‐heptyl‐3,4‐bis(9‐isocyanatononyl)‐1‐pentyl‐ cyclohexane (DDI) obtained after the chemical modification of a dimer fatty acids. TPUs were obtained with various amount of the BDO and ISO.…”

“…In this way, the resultant LDI based domain, in opposite to conventional 4,4 0 -diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) diisocyanate based domains, is amorphous, and shows a low T g . Therefore, the domain formed by LDI and chain extender, will constitute the SS, similar to the polyurethane synthesized by Charlon et al [29], and it would be the domain responsible for shape fixity. Taking into account the shape memory behavior of the material, two differentiated thermal transitions are needed.…”

“…Such systems usually segregate into microphases or domains . By the choice of a suitable combination of diisocyanate and polyol, and the soft segment/hard segment ratio, required properties such as high flexibility, large abrasion strength, good chemical resistance, excellent mechanical properties and adequate biocompatibility can be easily tailored .…”
