Synthesis, structural characterization of nano ZnTiO3 ceramic: An effective azo dye adsorbent and antibacterial agent

Abstract: Nanocrystalline meta-zinc titanate (ZnTiO 3 ) ceramic was prepared using a self-propagating solution combustion synthesis (SCS) for the first time using urea as fuel. The product was calcined at 800 • C for 2 h to improve the crystallinity. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy were used to charac… Show more

“…Among these, ZnTiO 3 has great potential in photocatalysis because of high reduction potential and low oxidation potential and also it suppresses recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes similar to other photocatalysts. However, the perovskite ZnTiO 3 is a type of ABO 3 and it has BO 6 octahedra with A 2+ cations inserted in the structure . Until, Various methods are used to synthesize ZnTiO 3 powder such as solid state method, hydrothermal method, sol‐gel method and magnetron sputtering methods .…”

“…The methods used for the removal of these dyes include adsorption, reverse osmosis, membrane filtration, electrocoagulation, ion exchange, electroflocculation, etc. [19]. These methods have various drawbacks such as long retention time, requirement of high dissolved oxygen concentration, high electricity consumption, short half-life, specificity only to certain dyes, etc.…”
