Synthesis, structural and DFT investigation of Zn(nba)2(meim)2 for adsorptive removal of eosin yellow dye from aqueous solution

Abstract: A novel Zn(II) mixed-ligand complex, Zn(nba) 2 (meim) 2 (1), synthesized from Zn(NO 3 ) 2 .6H 2 O, nitrobenzoic acid (Hnba) and 1-methylimidazole (meim) is reported. The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, powder and single crystal X-ray crystallography and TGA/DSC. 1 exhibits a tetrahedral geometry for Zn(II), which is coordinated to two carboxylate oxygen atoms from two nba anions and two imidazole nitrogen atoms from two meim molecules. Thermal analysis shows the stability of 1 up to 260… Show more

“…It belongs to the fluorescein dye family and is very water-soluble. Eosin Yellow is frequently used in gram staining to distinguish between various bacterial species because of its remarkable capacity to absorb red blood cells and red color (Oladipo et al 2021 ). EY dye is a unique acid dye often used for printing, tanning, and coloring leather, cotton, printing, and other materials (Jabbar et al 2022 ) (Singh et al 2017 ).…”

“…In order to treat dye wastewater, a variety of methods have been explored [4–13] . Among them, adsorption is considered to be one of the most effective methods because of its cost‐effectiveness, high efficiency and simple operation [14–23] . Conventional adsorbents such as activated alumina, [24] activated carbon, [25] zeolite, [26] natural clay, [27] etc.…”
