“…The commercial availability (Sigma Aldrich B8378) coupled with its application as a fluorescent compound for liquid scintillation neutrino detection makes Butyl‐PBD an ideal candidate for synthesis using the developed methodology. This was made possible by the C−H bond functionalisation of 2‐(4‐ tert‐ butylphenyl) 1,3,4‐oxadiazole with 4‐bromobiphenyl using the Pd/PTABS system to provide Butyl‐PBD ( 8 ) in 56% yield (Scheme A).Another molecule that has found immense biological applications is PHOXPY (2‐(5‐phenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐2‐yl)pyrazine) possessing a central 1,3,4‐oxadiazole core substituted with phenyl and pyrazine.
