Synthesis, processing and material properties of conjugated polymers

Abstract: Recent progress in the synthesis and characterization of well-defined conjugated polymers and oligomers is presented. The different synthetic schemes for most of the important conjugated polymers will be discussed using a subdivision into three main sections, covering hydrocarbon polymers, heterocyclic polymers and the oligomers, respectively. Although the materials properties will be referred to, the main emphasis of the review is directed to the different strategies that are now available to produce conjugat… Show more

“…Oxidation reactions induce electrons into the conductive chain, which destabilizes the chain structure [20] . The dopant coordinates, and therefore stabilizes, the conductive polymer chains to ensure a sufficient orbital overlap to induce the long-range conductive properties in the polymeric material.…”

“…Polyaniline (PAni) was the first EP used for industrial production of energy sources and biosensors [2]. The structure of PAni is well-studied [4,5] and its chemical/electrochemical synthesis is developed to produce solid powder or thin film [3]. In a protonic state PAni shows a good ionic and electron conductivity hence high electrochemical capacitance [6] suggesting a promising material for effective electroactive composites (ECs).…”
