Synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles by two different methods & comparison of their structural, antibacterial, photocatalytic and optical properties

Abstract: In this work, two different methods (sol-gel and biosynthesis) were adopted for the synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. The leaf extract of Azadirachta Indica (Neem) was utilized in the biosynthesis scheme. Structural, antibacterial, photocatalytic and optical performances of the two variants were analyzed. Both variants demonstrated a wurtzite hexagonal structure. The biosynthesized variant (25.97 nm) exhibited smaller particles than that of the sol-gel variant (33.20 nm). The morphological analysis … Show more

“…The absence of other elements also indicates a pure synthesized ZnONP, which corroborates the results of the XRD analysis. A similar nding was also reported by other workers 26,57,58 . The absence of impurities in the synthesized ZnONP is important for e cient antimicrobial activity 58 .…”

“…Herein, via sol-gel method, ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized using a precursor (zinc acetate dehydrate), a solvent (ethanol), a medium of NaOH, and distilled water. 108 Either the environmentally benign leaf extract of Azadirachta indica 109 or the aerial part extract of Deverra tortuosa 110 was used for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles as well as biosynthesis method. ZnO particles from nanospheres to microrods were prepared using the hydrazine method.…”
