Synthesis of Wurtzite-Type ZnMgS by the Pulsed Plasma in Liquid

Abstract: Wurtzite-type ZnMgS (w-ZnMgS) nanoparticles were synthesized using the pulsed plasma in liquid method. By the pulsed plasma generated between two electrodes made of ZnMg alloy in liquid sulfur, we produced w-ZnMgS nanocrystals mixed with Zn2Mg and MgS. Higher purity w-ZnMgS sample was achieved by annealing at 773 K. The synthesized ZnMgS nanoparticles were of spherical shape and contained of many crystal defects (stacking faults). Ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectroscopy analysis of the synthesized… Show more

“…Thus, the synthesized NPs were Ag/Pt bimetallic NPs rather than a usual alloy. Similar to this work, wurtzite-type ZnMgS synthesis was reported from a pulse plasma generated between two ZnMg rod electrodes inside liquid sulfur [243].…”

“…The configuration seen in Figure 2(ii-3) has also been used for producing NPs. Abdullaeva et al synthesized carbon-encapsulated Co, Ni, and Fe magnetic NPs [116], spherical ferromagnetic Fe 3 O 4 NPs [117], Wurtzite-type ZnMgS [118], and Fe and Ni NPs coated by carbon [119] using pulsed plasma techniques. In this system, one of the electrodes was kept vibrating in order to keep the discharge process stable.…”

“…One important II-VI semiconductor crystal host for doping active ions is ZnMgS. ZnMgS has attracted much attention because of its direct wide band gap energy (3.67 eV) at room temperature, which could be controlled by changing synthesis conditions in order to achieve a desired ultraviolet (UV) and visible spectra range [6]. The crystalline properties of ZnMgS alloy generally may display 3 different structures, the zinc blend (cubic β -ZnS), wurtzite (hexagonal α -ZnS), and rock salt ( γ -MgS) [7].…”
