Synthesis of Uniform Size Rutile TiO2 Microrods by Simple Molten-Salt Method and Its Photoluminescence Activity

Abstract: Uniform-size rutile TiO2 microrods were synthesized by simple molten-salt method with sodium chloride as reacting medium and different kinds of sodium phosphate salts as growth control additives to control the one-dimensional (1-D) crystal growth of particles. The effect of rutile and anatase ratios as a precursor was monitored for rod growth formation. Apart from uniform rod growth study, optical properties of rutile microrods were observed by UV−visible and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. TiO2 materials… Show more

“…All of the diffraction peaks align with the characteristic crystal facets of rutile. This finding matches the standard rutile TiO 2 card (JCPDS 21-1276), and similar results are confirmed in the relevant literature . The presence of these well-defined XRD peaks unequivocally confirms that the TiO 2 layer possesses a crystalline structure.…”

“…These bands can also be noticed in the spectrum of pure EGCG, confirming the capping of TiO 2 NPs with EGCG molecules in EGCG-TiO 2 NPs. Both NPs present broad absorption bands with peaks at 3229 cm −1 (chem-TiO2 NPs) and 3317 cm −1 (EGCG-TiO2 NPs) that can be assigned to O-H stretching modes of surface hydroxyl groups from moist in the sample [38]. Similarly, the peaks at 1636 cm −1 (chem-TiO2 NPs) and ~1630 cm −1 (EGCG-TiO2 NPs) are associated with the bending of OH groups from water at the surface of NPs [38].…”

“…The metal-modified TiO 2 coatings demonstrated high antimicrobial activity against M. lysodeicticus, while the bare TiO 2 could maintain enzymatic activity [ 5 ]. Using a simple molten-salt method, Ngo et al synthesized rutile TiO 2 microrods with uniform sizes [ 6 ]. Oxygen vacancies were generated in rutile TiO 2 , leading to varied photoluminescence emission properties from the wavelength of 400 to 900 nm [ 6 ].…”
