Synthesis of ultrathin PtPdBi nanowire and its enhanced catalytic activity towards p-nitrophenol reduction

Abstract: Ultrathin PtPdBi tri-metallic nanowires (NWs, diameters ranged from 3 nm to 5 nm) were prepared in a onepot polyol process in which the molar ratios of the three metals could be tuned depending on the amount of initial precursors. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and elemental mapping revealed that these NWs were alloys with a face-centered cubic crystal structure similar to PtPd alloy. p-Nitrophenol was used as a probe to assess the catalytic activities of the as-prepared PtPdBi… Show more

“…Compared with other catalysts reported in the literature (Table S1), including Pt- [11,[46][47], Ag- [48] and Au-based [43,49] catalysts, Pt3Au1-PDA/RGO exhibited a significantly higher k nor value (1700 s −1 g −1 ), strongly indicating the superior catalytic activity of Pt3Au1-PDA/RGO.…”

“…Several approaches for the reduction of nitrophenols to aminophenols have been reported so far, such as iron-acid reduction [1,2,15], electrolytic reduction [16], catalytic hydrogenation [17][18][19][20][21], etc.…”

“…For comparison, CB and nano Ni catalyst were also participated in the hydrogenation reactions. Moreover, catalytic hydrogenation of p-NP was conducted at four different temperatures(20,30,40 and 50 °C) to evaluate the impact of the temperature on the reaction. In order to investigate the effect of solvent on the reaction, the activity measurements were performed in methanol at 30 °C.3 Results and discussion3.1 Morphology and structureThe morphologies of pure Ni NPs and Ni 0.22 /CB catalysts were examined by TEM, which indicate that the as-prepared pure Ni NPs have an average size of 62.4 nm (Fig.…”

“…45 Without metal catalyst, the reduction of pnitrophenol to p-aminophenol using aqueous NaBH 4 is negligible since the reaction is kinetically restricted in the absence of a catalyst. 44 p-Nitrophenol is a well-known pollutant with high toxicity and poor biological degradability.…”
