Synthesis of the lichen depsides pseudocyphellarin A and B

Abstract: The total synthesis of the fully substituted lichen depsides, pseudocyphellarin A (3-hydroxy-4-methoxycarbonyl-2,5,6-trimethylphenyl 3-formyl-2,4-dihydroxy-5,6-dimethylbenzoate) (1) and pseudocyphellarin B (3-hydroxy-4-methoxycarbonyl-2,5,6-trimethylphenyl 2,4-dihydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl-5,6-dimethylbenzoate) (2) is described.
