Synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen‐11‐ones using a high‐performance catalyst based on Fe₃O₄/MCM‐41/covalent organic polymer decorated with gold nanoparticles

Abstract

A novel magnetic nanocomposite, covalent organic polymer (COP)-modified magnetic mesoporous MCM-41 decorated gold (Fe 3 O 4 /MCM-41/COP/Au) was fabricated easily via the modification of Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles with MCM-41, attachment of COP on Fe 3 O 4 /MCM-41 surface via a solvothermal approach followed by reaction with HAuCl 4 . Various physicochemical techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), X-Ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscope, Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET), energy dispersive X-ray (EDS), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and Simultaneous Thermal Analysis (STA) were applied to identify Fe 3 O 4 /MCM-41/COP/Au nanocomposite. The resultant nanocomposite was utilized as a novel and robust nanocatalyst for the fabrication of bioactive oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds, tetrahydrobenzo [a]xanthen-11-one derivatives via three-component one-pot reactions with high yields (88-97%) under mild reaction conditions in ethanol solvent within short time (30 min). Moreover, Fe 3 O 4 /MCM-41/COP/Au can be recovered and applied for six runs with a slight diminution in activity.
