Abstract: The reaction of indoles with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate yields indolylcarbonylsulfamoyl chlorides. Their reaction with amines afforded a series of indole-containing sulfamides.

Synthesis of Sulfamides of Indole Series. -The reaction of sulfamoyl chlorides (I) and (IV) with amines (II) and (V) occurs by nucleophilic substitution of chlorine providing a wide range of indole-containing sulfamides. With strongly basic amines such as N-(4-aminophenyl)acetamide, a mixture of the desired product and 3-cyanoindole is obtained.
