Synthesis of Random Copolymers of 2,6-Di(thiophen-2-Yl)aniline and 2,2'-(Thiophen-2,5-Diyl)dianiline With Aniline and Its Evaluation in Organic Solar Cells

Abstract: The present work deals with copolymers synthesized by reacting aniline units or blocks with 2,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)aniline and 2,2'-(thiophen-2,5-diyl)dianiline monomers. Characterization by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, UV-vis, 1H-NMR corroborated the formation of true copolymers. Synthesized products showed improved solubility and better photovoltaic efficiency than the respective homopolymers. The latter is due to the presence of a greater number of quinoid units, capable of promoting charge carrier… Show more

“…UV‐vis absorption spectra of ∼1 mg PA in 1 mL of THF samples are seen in Figure (a). The three PAs present strong absorption bands close to 300 nm, which can be ascribed to π‐π* benzenoid electronic transitions . Between 400–500 nm, low intensity absorption bands for P(AT‐MMSi) and P(AT‐PPSi) and medium intensity absorption band for P(AT‐MPSi) are found [inset, Figure (a)].…”

“…Various aniline (ANI)‐based copolymers have been reported in the literature. For example, ANI has been copolymerized with orthanilic acid, o ‐phenylenediamine, 2‐aminoterephthalic acid, tetrafluoroaniline, 3‐aminophenol, fluorene, xylidine, N ‐vinyl carbazole, caprolactone, 2‐aminobenzoic acid, pyrrole, dithipen‐2‐yl‐aniline, o ‐tluidine, p ‐phenylenediamine, and thymol blue (TB) . In a thorough literature survey, we did not found any report on copolymers containing azo dyes, particularly, Congo red (CR).…”

“…Although it is difficult to quantify the exact values for bandgaps, it can be estimated from onset potentials, as is widely done in the literature [75][76][77]. As described in mathematical expressions (Equations ( 7) and ( 8)), the onset potentials of oxidation (anodic) curve, i.e., (E onset ) ox and reduction (cathodic) curve, i.e., (E onset ) red linearly correlate with energies of frontier orbitals, HOMO (E HOMO ) and LUMO (E LUMO ), respectively [78].…”
