“…In our previous studies, we have proposed the successful synthesis of a series of polymer hollow spheres with holes in their surfaces, such as poly(toluidine) [36], poly(o-methoxyaniline) [37], and poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD) [38][39][40]. Among them, PoPD will show great potential for adsorption of heavymetal ions.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, a relatively simple and feasible pathway to form hollow polymers is the soft-templating method, which is to encapsulate molecular clusters [29,30], surfactants [31][32][33], or emulsion droplets [34][35][36] as a core and subsequently induced assembly between the precursor and core, in particular, the were characterized by using FT-IR spectroscopy (curves a, b, and c in Fig. 4, respectively), combining with the thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) profiles of the first two samples shown in Fig.…”

“…16 Recently, we have reported that a series of hollow spheres of PANI derivatives, such as poly(o-toluidine) (POT), poly(o-methoxyaniline) and poly(ophenylenediamine), can be synthesized through the chemical polymerization of monomers in aqueous solution using ammonium persulfate (APS) as the oxidant without the aid of surfactant or functional acid, where the monomer droplets were considered to act as template to the formation of hollow structures. [24][25][26] In this article, we report the interesting finding that well-defined Au/POT core/shell composite spheres can be successfully prepared through the chemical polymerization of o-toluidine monomers in aqueous solution using HAuCl 4 can be formed. The proposed strategy possesses the advantage of simple synthetic procedures and also this is an environmentally friendly way to the fabrication of gold/conducting polymer composites as surfactants and functional organic acids are not used in the synthesis.…”
