Synthesis of organic-inorganic hybrids based on cellulose acetate butyrate

Abstract: Synthesis of organic-inorganic hybrids based on cellulose acetate butyrate RAPID COMMUNICATION Summary-Novel organic-inorganic hybrids based on cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) were synthesized applying sol-gel process. The inorganic phase was introduced into polymer matrix by hydrolysis and condensation using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as the precursor, under acidic conditions. The obtained organic-inorganic hybrids were characterized by different techniques such as IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (… Show more

“…The first stage with a total mass loss ≈ 27.45% was due to head-to-head linkage cleavage (H–H linkage), the second stage with a total mass loss ≈ 47.82% was due to the degradation of unsaturated vinylidene ends, thus cleavage from the chain-end and the third stage (the residual polymer) with a total mass loss ≈ 15.57% was equivalent to the decomposition of the main chain of PMMA [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ]. PMMA/10%CAB blend showed a single degradation stage at 370 °C because of the organic constituents’ degradation [ 41 ].…”

“…Numerous polymer nanocomposites based on cellulose derivatives have been developed in the past few years [4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. In our previous work we reported the preparation of organicinorganic hybrids of the rst class (not covalently bound networks of inorganic and organic phases) based on cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) [11]. In this paper, novel modied cellulose acetate propionate/silica (MCAP/SiO 2 ) nanocomposites were synthesized by sol-gel process applying TEOS as a precursor and ICPTES as a couple agent resulting in the formation of a covalent bound between inorganic phase and polymer matrix.…”
