Synthesis of new ZnS–Bipy based hybrid organic–inorganic materials for photocatalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Abstract: ARTICLE This journal isZnS and ZnS-Bipy (4,4-Bipyridine) hybrid based organic-inorganic materials are easily synthesized using solvothermal methods and their structural, optical and morphological properties are characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, nitrogen physisorption and transmission electron microscopy TEM. The newly synthesized materials are tested as catalysts in the photocatalytic reduction of 4-Nitrophenol to 4-Aminophenol using Na 2 SO 3 as hole scavengers, under… Show more

“…This reaction order also was reported by other authors for this photocatalytic reaction. 17,18,62 The zero-order kinetics suggest that the disappearing rate of the nitroaromatic pollutant is maintained as time progresses, indicating that it is independent of the 4-NPhate ion concentration. The obtained values for the kinetics constant for the studied materials are reported in Fig.…”

“…In this sense, many efforts have been made in order to find the optimal conditions and the best photocatalysts to reach the selective reduction of nitrocompounds toward the formation of anilines. [16][17][18][19][20][21][22] Among various semiconductor materials, cerium dioxide (CeO 2 ) has scientific importance in photocatalysis due to its physicochemical properties such as redox capacity, nontoxicity, chemical stability, photocorrosion resistance, -Ce 3+ defects in CeO 2-x and efficiency of the redox cycle between the Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ ions in the semiconductor surface. [23][24][25] Recent research has claimed that CeO 2 is effective in the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants present in wastewater.…”

“…There are a few examples in the literature regarding ZnS structural surface modification by using organic aliphatic bidentate amines [1]. Additionally a recently published investigation shows the complete synthesis procedure using solvothermal methods and characterization of ZnS and ZnS-Bipy (4,4bipyridine) hybrid based organic-inorganic materials [2]. These materials are tested as catalysts in the photocatalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, under UV light irradiation and show a high performance in photocatalytic activity.…”

“…Figure 3b shows a model interpretation of the atomic distribution of ZnS along a [110] zone axis in the phase image. This has been done by assuming a cubic structure of the ZnS as suggested by X-ray diffraction [2]. Nevertheless the interatomic distances measured in the projection (Fig.…”
