Synthesis of new BLnZT nanostructured ferroelectric thin films

Abstract: A novel synthesis method was employed to obtain a new family of lead-free compounds with the general formula: Ba 1−y Ln 2y/3 Ti 0.91 Zr 0.09 O 3 (Ln= lanthanide element). The thin films were deposited by RF-magnetron sputtering under high-oxygen pressure on different substrates at 873 K. The crystalline phases were studied via x-ray diffraction, showing the 00l epitaxial reflections corresponding to perovskite single-phase compounds. The films revealed high homogeneity and stoichiometries corresponding to BLnZ… Show more

“…This way, we have noted that the growth of the film on Si (100) was effectively accomplished with a (100), (110) and (200) direction, whereas the film growth on STO (100) showed a [001] preferential direction due to BLZT similar cell parameters [10]. The (hkl) values correspond to diffraction peak already reported in the literature for BZT [11].…”

“…BaZr x Ti 1-x O 3 characteristics have also been improved by inserting a lanthanide ion as dopant [3] because of its low leakage current behavior and low electric field. However, extensive studies are still needed on systems where the substitution of a lanthanide ion for barium requires the generation of A-site cationic vacancies to maintain electro neutrality in the perovskite structure.…”
