Synthesis of nano-zirconium-iron oxide supported by activated carbon composite for the removal of Sb(v) in aqueous solution

Abstract: The adsorbent was highly effective in the removal of Sb(v). The adsorbent easily achieved solid–liquid separation under the action of an external magnetic field.

“…Antimony (Sb) is potentially toxic to humans, so it needs to get controlled to prevent its severe effects on humans. 98 Antimony compounds possess the ability to introduce diseases like Hypoxia (absence of enough oxygen in the tissues to sustain bodily functions) and other metabolic disorders because the compounds of Antimony abstract the enzyme activities. Antimony exists in two states Sb(III) and Sb(V).…”

“…The initial pH of the treated solution significantly influences the entire adsorption process as it relates to changes in charges on the surface of the adsorbent and the protonation/deprotonation of adsorption sites (Liu et al 2021). The pH also affects the behavior of metal ions in the aqueous medium (Cruz-Lopes et al 2021), making the adsorption process efficiency and adsorbent performance dependent on the solution pH.…”
