Synthesis of Mg-Al Hydrotalcite Clay with High Adsorption Capacity

Abstract: A novel Mg-Al metal oxide has been successfully synthesized by the calcination of hierarchical porous Mg-Al hydrotalcite clay obtained by using filter paper as a template under hydrothermal conditions. Various characterizations of the obtained nanoscale oxide particles verified the uniform dispersion of Mg-Al metal oxides on the filter paper fiber, which had a size of 2–20 nm and a highest specific surface area (SSA) of 178.84 m2/g. Structural characterization revealed that the as-prepared Mg-Al metal oxides p… Show more

“…The specific surface area of LDH and CLDH obtained in this work are in the range of the values obtained in similar syntheses [27,28]. With a similar Mg/Al ratio, the obtained BET specific surface area from this work (36.7 m 2 g −1 ) is higher compared to was synthesized by previous work (17.3 m 2 g −1 ) [29], but smaller compared to another work (58 m 2 g −1 ) [30].…”

“…26,27 Furthermore, the peaks around 744 and 557 cm À1 were attributed to the stretching and bending vibrations of metal oxygens (Al O and Mg O) present in hydrotalcite. 28 The crystalline structures of Mg-Al LDH were analyzed by XRD, as shown in Figure 2b. The characteristic peaks were observed at 2θ = 11.56 , 23.24 , 34.62 , 46.36 , 60.7 , and 62.0 that correspond to the crystal planes of (003), ( 006), ( 009), (012), (110), and (113), respectively.…”

“…As such, drilling fluids need an additive with high stability. In addition, our research group has conducted research in the field of drilling fluid treatment agents [ 7 , 8 ], as a result of which we proposed some inorganic materials as desirable additives under HPHT conditions [ 9 , 10 ]. Graphite is an atomic crystal with carbon atoms connected by covalent single bonds to form a stable regular hexagonal network structure.…”
