Synthesis of Methano[60]fullerenephosphonic- and Methano[60]fullerenediphosphonic Acids

Abstract

Methano[60]fullerenephosphonic acid (5) and methano[60]fullerene diphosphonic acid (8) have been synthetized through the thermal addition of dimethyl diazomethylphosphonate to C 60 and the Bingel-type reaction of tetramethyl bromomethylenediphosphonate with C 60 in the presence of DBU, respectively. Hydrolysis of the phosphonic esters thus obtained afforded the corresponding acids.
