Synthesis of High Molecular Weight Vinylphenyl-Con Taining MQ Silicone Resin via Hydrosilylation Reaction

Abstract: To overcome the inherent limitation that the preparation of high molecular weight MQ copolymers (Mw ≥ 30,000 g/mol) via the hydrolysis and condensation of solicate salts generally results in an intractable gel, vinylphenyl-containing MQ silicone resin with a high molecular weight was designed and synthesized through the hydrosilylation reaction of vinyl-containing MQ silicone resin and linear poly(diphenylsiloxane) with two terminal Si–H bonds. The weight average molecular weight of these modified copolymers r… Show more

“…MQ silicone resins, as a branch of polysilsesquioxanes, feature a double-layer compact globular molecular structure, comprised of monofunctional silane units (M, R 3 SiO 1/2 ) and tetrafunctional silane units (Q, SiO 4/2 ). 17–19 The typical approach for synthesizing MQ silicone resins involves the hydrolysis and condensation of Si(OEt) 4 (Q unit) and Me 3 SiCl (M unit) under acidic or alkaline conditions. 20 The methyl groups of the M units could also be replaced by hydrogen and functionalities such as vinyl and phenyl.…”

“…Therefore, organosilicon materials reinforced by MQ-type silicone resin have more advantages in practical applications due to their lower viscosities. [2][3][4] Sawvel et al [5] constructed a PDMS-MQ composite material using vinyl MQ silicone resin as the reinforcing filler for PDMS. When MQ resin with a high filling load in the range of 40-50 wt% was added, the composite material exhibited excellent rigidity.…”

“…Compared with fumed or precipitated SiO 2 , MQ‐type silicone resin can not only improve the mechanical properties of polymer materials but also the viscosity of the polymer system changes little after the addition of MQ resin as fillers. Therefore, organosilicon materials reinforced by MQ‐type silicone resin have more advantages in practical applications due to their lower viscosities [2–4] . Sawvel et al [5] .…”
