“…Although phases up to n = 4 were obtained in bulk form under ambient pressure, ,,, the obtained samples are usually multiphase mixtures except for Hg-1201-Ba. The difficulty in preparing a phase pure sample is mainly derived from a low thermal stability of the mercury compounds.…”

“…27,99 Furthermore, the T c of Hg-1223-Ba increases drastically with the application of hydrostatic pressure, reaching the value of 164 K at 31 GPa. 100 Although phases up to n ) 4 were obtained in bulk form under ambient pressure, 26,27,101,102 the obtained samples are usually multiphase mixtures except for Hg-1201-Ba. “…We did not obtain a singlephase Hg-1234 sample by this method, though Usami et al 14 and Antipov et al 15 reported nearly single-phase Hg-1234 samples prepared by the two-pellet method and high-pressure method, respectively. However, the susceptibility curve clearly indicates the existence of the phase with a T c about 7 K lower than that of the Hg-1212 phase.…”

“…They are (i) the precursor method in which samples are prepared from a mixture of HgO and Ba-Ca-Cu-O precursor, 8,9 (ii) single-step firing method starting from a mixture of monoxides (HgO, BaO, CaO, and CuO), [10][11][12] (iii) the two-pellet technique in which an Hg-Ba-Ca-Cu-O pellet and a Ba-Ca-Cu-O pellet are placed in a quartz tube, 13,14 (iv) high pressure synthesis technique, 15,16 etc. They are (i) the precursor method in which samples are prepared from a mixture of HgO and Ba-Ca-Cu-O precursor, 8,9 (ii) single-step firing method starting from a mixture of monoxides (HgO, BaO, CaO, and CuO), [10][11][12] (iii) the two-pellet technique in which an Hg-Ba-Ca-Cu-O pellet and a Ba-Ca-Cu-O pellet are placed in a quartz tube, 13,14 (iv) high pressure synthesis technique, 15,16 etc.…”

“…The first member HgBa 2 CuO 4+δ , of this HgBa 2 Ca n-1 Cu n O 2n+2+δ [Hg-12(n-1)n] series, was invented in 1993 by Putilin et al [3] exhibiting superconductivity at 94 K. Soon after, Schilling et al [1] observed superconductivity at 133.5 K in the Hg-Ba-Ca-CuO system and reported the formation of Hg-1212 and Hg-1223 phases. The highest values of T c 's, which were determined as the onset temperature of Meissner signal, were 97 K [4], 127 K [5], 135 K [6], and 123 K [7] for Hg-1201, Hg-1212, Hg-1223 and Hg-1234 phases, respectively. Particular importance of the series is very high T c values than other cuprate superconductors.…”
