Synthesis of heterocyclic monomers via Reissert chemistry

Abstract: The chemistry of Reissert compounds has been used to synthesize activated difluorotetraketone monomers containing two coupled isoquinolyl moieties, linked at either the 1,1 0 -or 4,4 0 -positions. These monomers offer routes to novel families of poly(heteroarylene ether)s. New 4,4 0 -coupled bis(Reissert compound) 9 containing 4,4 0 -diketo moieties failed to afford the desired difluorotetraketo monomer upon attempted rearrangement. However, analogous bis(Reissert compound) 19 containing 4,4 0 -dibenzyl units … Show more

“…For 3-2, the LUMO level is −1.1309 eV and the HOMO level is −5.5984 eV, so the bandgap is ΔEg = EHOMO − ELUMO = 4.4675 eV. From electrochemical cyclic voltammetry, the energy gap is ΔEg = 3.44 eV[24][25][26][27]. The band gaps from electrochemical cyclic voltammetry and the theoretical calculations indicate that the compound has a wide band gap, which is required for an UV luminescent material so the compound is a candidate for UV OLEDs.…”
