“…Usually, the reaction assumed for hercynite formation is FeO +Al 2 O 3 Ͼ FeAl 2 O 4 . 39 However, in the present study, as in the previous one we conducted using Fe-Al 2 O 3 arc-melted samples, there are no available sources of free oxygen for the reaction with iron dissolved in alumina. For this reason, we suggest that the iron dissolved in alumina by mechanical action in the milling process forms hercynite with oxygen vacancies, i.e., FeAl 2 O 3+W ͑0 ഛ W ഛ 1͒.…”
