Synthesis of ethylamine-bridged β-cyclodextrins and adsorption properties of thorium

Abstract: A specialized ethylamine-bridged b-cyclodextrins (EB b-CD) was synthetized. EB b-CD's adsorption properties of thorium ions were performed. Experimental results show that the adsorption of thorium using the EB b-CD can achieve equilibrium within 60 min at room temperature under the condition of pH 4, the adsorbance is 10.49 mg g -1 . The results of SEM and BET nitrogen adsorption show that, EB b-CD is typical mesoporous material. According to pseudo-second-order kinetics, the adsorption of Th(IV) indicating th… Show more

“…Many techniques have been used for Th separation, including precipitation [ 24 26 ], solvent extraction [ 27 , 28 ], and adsorption [ 9 , 21 , 29 35 ]. Among these processes, adsorption is arguably the simplest, most adaptable, useful, and well–established technique for Th separation [ 36 ].…”

“…Besides, the separation factors (β) of Th(IV)/La(III), Th(IV)/Eu(III), and Th(IV)/Lu(III) could be 10.7, 16.4, and 10.3, respectively. The q e and β values were higher than those of most of the other adsorbents such as functionalized mesoporous silica (19.2 mg/g), fiber-reinforced polymer (24.43 mg/g), impregnating resin XAD-7 (1.7 mg/g), ethylamine-bridged cyclodextrin (10 mg/g), and aluminum ores (0.98 mg/g)…”

“…[11][12][13][14] Solvent extraction processes were the most interesting technique for separation and recovery of thorium. 15 Various extractants such as amines, [16][17][18] isoxazolones, crown ethers, 19 organophosphorus reagents 20 and ionic liquids 21,22 have been employed for the extraction of thorium and rare earth metals. Extracting a trace amount of thorium spectrophotometry has been introduced as a powerful technique due to its acceptable precision and accuracy, in addition to its lower cost compared to the other techniques.…”
