“…The images are consistent with previous XRD results which show the presence of carbonates and quartz. Carbonates (calcite) are in the form of highly visible aggregates while quartz is in the form of small grains [23,24]. The images show a sheet structure of the clay.…”

“…Glycerol acetals and ketals can be synthesized through the acid-catalyzed reaction of glycerol with aldehydes and ketones, respectively. Glycerol ketals are interesting as fuel additives (oxygenates) [20][21][22], fuel antioxidants [23] and as reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavengers able to act in-vitro and in-vivo [24]. Solketal, in particular, is known to reduce gum formation and particulate emissions, enhance fuel flow in cold conditions, improve stability towards oxidation, and boost octane number when it is added to gasoline, which contributes to reducing the environmental impact (the LD50 for fish is higher than 3100 ppm for solketal, while for MTBE it is 1000 ppm) [25].…”

“…Ergosta-5,22dien-3-ol, acetate, which has antioxidant properties, was detected in methanolic extract only (3.1%) (Mohammed et al, 2016). Glycerol, a 3TMS derivative, and 1monopalmitin, a 2TMS derivative, were present in amounts of less than 1%, and are characterized by antioxidant activity (Nobre et al, 2020). Most phytochemicals detected in the selected extracts are known to have antioxidant effects, and play vital roles in controlling diabetic complications, while ROS cause several diseases, such as diabetes (Mohapatra et al, 2016).…”

“…Compounds containing chalcogen atoms (S, Se, Te) are versatile synthetic intermediates for the synthesis of complex molecules ( Mukherjee et al, 2010 ; Beletskaya & Ananikov, 2011 ; Godoi, Schumacher & Zeni, 2011 ). Furthermore, the interest in organochalcogen compounds is connected to their well reported pharmacological activities ( Santi, 2014 ), including antidepressant-like ( Brod et al, 2017 ), antiviral ( Sartori et al, 2016 ), antifungal ( Venturini et al, 2016 ), anxiolytic ( Reis et al, 2017 ), anticholinesterasic ( Peglow et al, 2017 ), anti-inflammatory ( Pinz et al, 2017 ), and antioxidant ( Nobre et al, 2017 ).…”
