Synthesis of cool white light emitting novel dysprosium (Dy3+) complexes with tetradentate β‐ketoamide and heterocyclic auxiliary ligands

Abstract: To improve current multiphase white light emitting diodes (WLEDs), a novel series of five complexes consisting of one binary and four ternary complexes that emitted cool white light was successfully synthesized using a chelating tetradentate ligand and auxiliary ligands, i.e. 5,6‐dimethyl‐1,10‐phenanthroline, 1,10‐phenanthroline, 4,4′‐dimethyl‐2,2′‐bipyridyl, and 2,2′‐bipyridyl. The series was examined structurally using elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive X‐ray analy… Show more

“…9 The systematic energy transfer mechanism of terbium (III) complexes the energy transfer from ligand to a metal ion is efficient, only when the energy difference between the triplet state of ligand and resonating levels of terbium (III) ions should lie in the range 2000-5000 cm -1 [71]. Moreover, the ISC is efficacious when the energy difference between singlet and triplet states of ligand was near 5000 cm -1 authenticated by the Reinhoudt rule [72]. As Table 13 displays, the energy parameter favors the effective intersystem crossing in all ligand and ancillary ligands.…”

“…The bands observed at 761 and 451 nm are attributed to the 6 H 15/2 → 6 F 3/2 and 6 H 15/2 → 4 F 9/2 energy level transitions of Dy 3+ . The absorption bands also include five prominent bands analogous to Dy 3+ at 324, 350, 365, 387, and 428 nm, which are respectively assigned to the electronic transitions of 6 H 15/2 → 4 M, 4 I 15/2 , 6 H 15/2 → 4 I 11/2 , 6 H 15/2 → 4 I 13/2 , 4 F 7/2 , 6 H 15/2 → 4 G 11/2 , and 6 H 15/2 → 4 I 15/2 . , A gradual decline in the absorption intensity corresponding to PLA is noticed in PLA/DyPO 4 composites, thus indicating the reduction of PLA absorbance due to enhanced DyPO 4 additions.…”

“…The pH of the reaction mixture was maintained in the range of 6.5-7 throughout the reaction by adding the freshly prepared NaOH solution dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred and heated simultaneously using a heating magnetic stirrer as long as the evaporation of the solvent took place to yield the precipitates of Eu (BP) 3 .2H 2 O (E1) [17,18]. Similarly, [Gd (BP) 3 .2H 2 O] (G1) was synthesized for measuring the triplet state of the ligand BP.…”
