Synthesis of Citric Acrylate Oligomer and Its In‐Situ Reaction with Chrome Tanned Collagen (Hide Powder)

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to formulate the new combined system of acrylic and citric acids, which was prepared by free radical polymerization and esterification reaction at the same time to form citric-acrylate CAC oligomer. The presumable chemical structure of this oligomer and the reaction mechanism were investigated by different spectroscopic tools ( 1 H, 13 C-NMR and ATR-IR), GPC and TGA/ DTA. The effect as masking agent of the eco-friendly oligomer (CAC) in the chrome tanning of the collagen and the p… Show more

“…The thermograms of MPE after blended with G b and G c , in addition to collagen hide powder (H 1 , H 2 , and H 3 ) are shown in Figure 3 and Table IV. In the thermal degradation of the collagen, it was envisaged that the weight loss at 320°C is due to the partial cleavage of peptide bonds with the formation of peptide fragments of low molecular weight 34. The degradation of the hide powder alone starts at 280°C whereas the degradation of the hide powder after blending with MPE was shifted to the range 448–454°C.…”

“…These multifunctional polymers are designed to minimize the chemicals offered in the post-tanning process. 4,5 The amphoteric polymers usually consist of anionic, cationic, and long-chain hydrophobic groups that have tunable molecular charges and are compatible with all the tanning processes. They can be synthesized by choosing monomers of specific reactive groups and forming block copolymers of variable molecular weight.…”

“…The amphoteric polymers with retanning and fatliquoring functions have provoked great interest recently. These multifunctional polymers are designed to minimize the chemicals offered in the post‐tanning process 4,5 . The amphoteric polymers usually consist of anionic, cationic, and long‐chain hydrophobic groups that have tunable molecular charges and are compatible with all the tanning processes.…”

“…Because of its ellipsoidal shape, highly branched structure, and nonentangled molecular character, the hyperbranched polymer presents a low viscosity and high solubility and reactivity; this allows for a broad range of uses. In addition, a hyperbranched polymer can be synthesized by a very straightforward procedure, such as melt polycondensation …”
