Synthesis of Calixarene‐Linked Discotic Triphenylene

Abstract: The syntheses of new macrocyclic molecules containing calixarene and discotic triphenylene units in good yields are reported. Structural and conformational characterization of these new compounds was achieved by UV/Vis, FTIR, and NMR spectroscopy; mass spectrometry; and elemental analysis. The liquid‐crystalline behavior was studied by polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X‐ray diffraction. The symmetrical calix[4]arene‐linked triphenylene dimer with a C10 chain (2b) exhibited … Show more

“…One way is calixarene as cores, that is calixarene bowlic column with two triphenylene units as ancillary lateral columns (Figure 17(a)). The symmetrical calix [4]arene-linked triphenylene dimer 88 (Figure 18) with a C 10 chain was such a case that exhibited the liquid-crystalline behaviour of a calixarene bowlic column with two triphenylene units as ancillary lateral columns [88]. Another way was triphenylene as cores, that is triphenylene column with calixarene units on ancillary lateral sides as shown in Figure 17(b).…”

“…36,37 Menon et al introduced an aliphatic side chain inbuilt with different linking groups on the calixarene core. 38,39 Yang and his co-workers reported various calixarene-based liquid crystalline materials with different temperature range and thermal stability. 4044 Among them, our research group also reported various calix[4]arene-based hexagonal columnar LCs with good photophysical behavior.…”
