Synthesis of Cadmium Sulfide Nanoparticles by Biomass of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici

Abstract: This study describes extracellular biosynthesis of cadmium sulfide quantum dots by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. Mycelia was incubated with a cadmium sulfate solution at 30°C and after 12 days the mixture became yellow, then the biomass was discarded through paper filtration. The filtrate containing extracellular cadmium sulfide quantum dots displayed increased UV-Vis absorption from 300 - 500 nm and fluorescence at 520 nm which was not shown when incubated without cadmium sulfide, thus indicating the… Show more

“…7031) with a pre-inoculum of 1×10 6 spores/mL. After four days of incubation at 150 rpm and 30°C, the biomass was washed three times with 15 mL of sterile distilled water and recovered by vacuum filtration [20]. The negative inorganic control (Inorganic) was performed in 250 mL flasks with 60 mL of Cd(NO3)2*4H2O 1.0 mM and S° 0.1 M, while the biological control was carried out using 6.0 g of biomass grown in MGYP (Biological MGYP) or DS (Biological DS) medium and 60 mL of sterile distilled water at 24 h, 150 rpm, and 30°C .…”

“…Zinc sulfide NPs of 42 nm were biosynthesized extracellularly from ZnSO 4 •H 2 O aqueous solution by F. oxysporum [71]. In 2017 Sandoval-Cárdenas et al obtained cadmium sulfide quantum dots of 2-6 nm diameter by incubation of F. oxysporum with a cadmium sulfate solution for 12 d at 30 °C [72]. It is astounding how one type of fungus can synthesize so many types of NPs, or contribute to the formation of one type, such as silver in various ways.…”
