Synthesis of by the Flux Method

Abstract: BiNbO 4 has been successfully synthesized using Bi 2 O 3 -B 2 O 3 eutectic flux. In particular, we succeeded in synthesizing a lowtemperature-phase BiNbO 4 crystal (α-BiNbO 4 ) at 1073 K as well as high-temperature-phase BiNbO 4 crystal (β-BiNbO 4 ). The morphology of α-BiNbO 4 and β-BiNbO 4 particles prepared by the flux method is a euhedral crystal. In contrast, the morphology of particles prepared by solid state reaction differs: α-BiNbO 4 is aggregated and β-BiNbO 4 is necked. Ultraviolet-visible diffuse r… Show more

“…In the orthorhombic system, (NbO 6 ) polyhedron alternate with bismuth atoms in a planar manner [42], with a relatively large cell volume, (~330 Å 3 ). Whereas in the triclinic phase, such alternating occur in a distorted manner, and the cell volume is smaller than that of the orthorhombic system (about 324 Å 3 ) [43]. Based on our findings, there is a direct correlation between band gap of prepared BiNbO and lattice volume; as the lattice volume increases the band gap decreases.…”

“…BaMO 4 (M = Mo, W) have been prepared using alkaline metal nitrates as fluxes at 400-550°C; nice rhombic-shaped crystals with a size of 50 μm and mostly exposing (111) faces were formed (Figure 1.1) [29]; the crystal size can be controlled through the reaction temperature and the time and nature of the alkaline metal nitrate flux. A low temperature phase of BiNbO 4 using a Bi 2 O 3 -B 2 O 3 eutectic flux was prepared by Maruyama et al [30] at 800°C, 100°C below the temperature required in the conventional ceramic method; the particles were also more crystalline.…”

“…The temperature of transition from α-BiNbO 4 to β-BiNbO 4 is in the range of 1020-1040 °C. 4,5) The relative dielectric constants of α-BiNbO 4 and β-BiNbO 4 are approximately 45 and 30, respectively. [6][7][8][9] Bi 5 N 3 O 15 has an orthorhombic structure and a relative dielectric constant of about 70.…”
