Synthesis of Biocompatible and Biodegradable Polyamidoamines Microgels via a Simple and Reliable Statistical Approach

Abstract: Polyamidoamines (PAAs) are biocompatible and biodegradable polymers with a huge potential as biomaterials for pharmaceutical applications. They are obtained by the step-wise aza-Michael polyaddition of bifunctional or multifunctional amines with bisacrylamides in water. To the best of our knowledge, no synthetic protocols leading to hyperbranched PAAs as well as PAA microgels have been published so far. To fill this gap, a statistical approach was established in this work to fine-tune the aza-Michael polyaddit… Show more

“…[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Among various degradable polymers, poly(aminoamide)s (PAAs) are interesting, as it contains cationic amine groups in addition to degradable amide moieties in its backbone. [9][10][11] Such polymers are biodegradable due to the combination of retro aza-Michael and hydrolysis reactions. 12,13 Due to its biodegradability and biocompatibility, functional poly(aminoamide)s are well known in various biomedical applications such as gene delivery, drug delivery, bioimaging, biosensing, etc.…”
