Synthesis of Anion-Mixed Crystals of Assembled Complexes Bridged by 1,2-Bis(4-pyridyl)ethane and the Ligand Field of Fe(NCS)(NCBH3) Unit

Abstract: Anion-mixed iron(II) assembled complexes using NCS and NCBH3 as anionic ligand and bridged by 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpe) are synthesized under several conditions for various ratios of NCS to NCBH3. Elemental analysis showed that the experimentally observed fractions of NCS tend to be more than those in the preparation. Some structures are determined by using single crystal X-ray structural analysis. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns are compared among the anion-mixed crystals. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy r… Show more

“… 6 , 27 33 This interest was significantly increased with the first porous SCO coordination polymers reported, since they additionally afforded the prospect of investigating the impact of host–guest interactions on the SCO properties. In this context, the family of doubly interpenetrated two-dimensional Fe II SCO coordination polymers generically formulated as [Fe(L) 2 (NCS) 2 ]@Guest, L being the bis-monodentate pyridine-type bridging ligands tvp ( trans -(4,4′-vinylenedipyridine)), 34 azpy (4,4′-azopyridine), 35 bpbd (2,3-bis(4′-pyridyl)-2,3-butanediol), 36 , 37 bpe (1,2-bis(4′-pyridyl)ethane), 38 and bped ( dl -1,2-bis(4′-pyridyl)-1,2-ethanediol) 39 has had a pivotal influence on the field. Recently, a number of clathrates of the type [Fe(tvp) 2 (NCS) 2 ]@Guest ( 1@G ) were reported with a variety of guests such as water, acetonitrile, dimethylacetamide, dimethylsulfoxide, benzonitrile, benzaldehyde, and nitrobenzene.…”

“…Among them, we became interested in the complexes bridged by bis(pyridyl) type ligands, because these complexes easily form vacancies. We have studied SCO phenomenon for the complexes bridged by 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane [14][15][16][17][18], 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane [19,20], 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl)benzene derivatives [21], and 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl)anthracene [22]. By changing the bridging ligand and guest molecule, the local structure is controlled to propeller, parallel type, or distorted propeller (Scheme 1).…”
