Abstract:In this paper, we describe the synthesis and characterization of alkoxylated TEMPO, (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxyl, radicals with potential application in organic non-aqueous redox flow batteries. The behavior of a series of TEMPO derivatives with varying lengths of alkoxy chain is analyzed in acetonitrile solutions using electrochemistry techniques, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and measurements of permeability through three different membranes.
