Synthesis, molecular and optical characterization of polycarbonates containing azobenzene side‐chains

Abstract: In this study, we report the synthesis and holographic characterization of polycarbonates containing an azobenzene group in their side‐chains. The polycarbonate (DR‐PC) was synthesized by the polyaddition reaction of Disperse Red 19 (DR 19) and carbon dioxide in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone for 24 h in air, and we investigated the mechanism in the presence of potassium carbonate. The film of polycarbonate was obtained by casting onto a slide glass in N,N‐dimethylformamide. The diffraction efficiency of the polycarbo… Show more

“…[1,2] The mechanical properties are predominated by the stereostructure of the region selectivity of the linear carbonate linkage in the polycarbonate. The enantioselectivity of the polycarbonate, head-to-tail connectivity, and carbonate linkage are important factors to determine the thermal stability and the mechanical properties.…”

“…9) showed an absorption peak at l max ¼ 484 nm attributed to the n / p * transitions of the azobenzene group [50,63]. Compared to the UV spectrum of DR19, the absorption of MA19 was blue-shifted, exhibiting a peak at 463 nm.…”
