This study was designed to investigate the allethrin induced toxico-pathological changes in adult male albino rats. A total of 60 adult male albino rats were divided randomly into 4 equal groups. Group A was treated as control while group B was given Allethrin @ 0.5g/kg, group C @ 1.0g/kg and group D @1.5g/kg body weight respectively, orally once at day 14 of experiment. Dullness, erected hairs, alopecia, less response towards feed and water, watery droppings, tremors, convulsions and coma were more prominent signs in treated groups. Feed intake and body weight was decreased in all treated groups. Acute mortality was seen in group C and D. The total erythrocyte and leukocyte count, hemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume (P≤0.05) was deviated from normal in all the groups treated with allethrin. Histopathologically, kidneys exhibited condensed nuclei, necrotic tubules and congested renal parenchyma. In liver, vacuolar degeneration in nucleus and cytoplasm was observed. Micro nucleated lymphocytes were also evident in group D treated with highest dose of allethrin. In conclusion, allethrin induced dose and time-dependent toxico-pathological effects in adult male albino rats were observed and presented.

Due to the unique environmental conditions and vast territory, marine habitat breeds more abundant biological resources than terrestrial environment. Massive marine biological species provide valuable resources for obtaining a large number of natural products with diverse structure and excellent activity. In recent years, new breakthroughs have been made in the application of marine natural products in drug development. In addition, the use of marine natural products to develop insecticides and other pesticide products has also been widely concerned. Targeting marine plants, animals, and microorganisms, we have collected information on marine natural products with insecticidal activity for nearly decade, including alkaloids, terpenes, flavonoids and phenols fatty acids, peptides, and proteins, et al. In addition, some active crude extracts are also included. This review describes the insecticidal activities of marine natural products and their broad applications for future research in agriculture and health.

Excess pesticide residues on cabbage are harmful to humans. In this study, we propose an innovative strategy for a quick and nondestructive qualitative test of lambda-cyhalothrin residues on Chinese cabbage. Spectral profiles of Chinese cabbage leaf samples with different concentrations of surface residues of lambda-cyhalothrin were collected with an Agilent Cary 630 FTIR Spectrometer. Standard normal variate (SNV), multiplicative scatter correlation (MSC), and principle component analysis (PCA) were utilized to preprocess the spectra. Then, fuzzy Foley-Sammon transformation (FFST), fuzzy linear discriminant analysis (FLDA), and fuzzy uncorrelated discriminant transformation (FUDT) were employed to extract features from the spectra data. Finally, k-nearest neighbor (kNN) was applied to classify samples according to the concentration of lambda-cyhalothrin residue. The highest identification accuracy rates of FFST, FLDA, and FUDT were 100%, 97.22%, and 100%, respectively. FUDT performed the best considering the combination of accuracy rate and required computing time. We believe that mid-infrared spectroscopy combined with fuzzy uncorrelated discriminant analysis is an effective method to accurately and quickly conduct qualitative analyses of lambda-cyhalothrin residues on Chinese cabbages. This method may have applications in other crops and other pesticide residues.
