Synthesis, crystal structures, and properties of [Ca(H2O)2(Dmf@CB[6])(Bdc)] · DMF · 4H2O and [Ca(H2O)3(Dmf@CB[6])]Cl2 · 2H2O

Abstract: Complexes [Ca(H 2 O) 2 (Dmf@CB[6])(Bdc)] · DMF · 4H 2 O (I) and [Ca(H 2 O) 3 (Dmf@CB[6])]Cl 2 · 2H 2 O (II) are synthesized by the heating (95°C) of a mixture of calcium chloride and cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]) in a mixture of dimethylformamide (DMF) and water with the addition of terephthalic acid (H 2 Bdc) in the case of complex I or triethylamine for complex II. The compounds are characterized by X ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. The luminescence spectra … Show more

“…Moreover, the uranyl center also played an important role in these systems. For example, when uranyl cations in these systems are replaced by other metal nodes such as Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ , and Ba 2+ , the sandwichlike MOFs containing CB n would not be obtained even though both the H 2 TP ligands and CB n were used in those systems. …”

“…The coordination polyhedron of Ca 2+ is a distorted pentagonal bipyramid. One DMF molecule is positioned within the cavity of CB[6] and coordinated to the calcium atom, which is arranged above the CB[6] portal . Ca 2+ lies almost in the plane of the oxygen atoms of the macrocycle portals (Figure ).…”
