Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Second-Order Nonlinear Optical Properties of a New Bis(salicylaldiminato)nickel(II) Metal Complex

Abstract: The synthesis, crystal structure, electronic and second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of a new bis(salicylaldiminato)nickel(II) Schiff-base complex are reported. The compound crystallizes in the space group P1 h. The NLO properties are investigated by electric field induced second harmonic (EFISH) and by INDO/SCI-SOS calculation. This compound obtained by condensation of 4-(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde and 1,2-diamino-4,5-dinitrobenzene in the presence of nickel(II) chloride exhibits the largest sec… Show more

“…By contrast, there is a clear correlation between the magnetic and NLO signal in 29 [78]. Contrary to the previous studies carried out on SCO complexes in which the 1D "push-pull" character is dominant (26,27), the largest NLO signal is observed here at high temperature. This result is supported by a DFT computation.…”

“…Indeed, Ni II is involved as an additional donor in the NLO response of 5, but furthermore, and due to its position in the center of the -conjugated core, it enhances the intramolecular charge transfer behavior of the entire organic skeleton and finally leads to an enhancement of the overall NLO response (experimental v alue of 235 × 10 −30 esu and 109 × 10 −30 esu, at 1.34 m, for 5 and 6, respectively) [25]. The molecular hyperpolarizability in this class of nickel(II) Schiff-base complexes was further optimized in 7, with a × ˇ value of 1530 × 10 −30 esu ( in D) which is twice the value observed in 5 [26].…”

“…As an alternative we used the well-known template synthesis to prepare the Ni II complex 8 in almost quantitative yield. [21] Reduction of the nitro groups was carried out under hydrogen in the presence of Pd/C as catalyst. Complex 10 was synthesised in good yield following the condensation of the diamino derivative 9 with phendione 1 in refluxing methanol.…”

“…The experimental setup has been described elsewhere. 62 In order to monitor the dynamics of SHG generation, SHG measurements have been made at a fixed incident angle (30°) during the poling cycle. The secondorder susceptibilities d 33 of the copolymer films have been determined at 1907 nm by the Maker fringe method.…”
