Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Properties of a Binuclear Copper(II) Complex Containing an Oxalate Bridge

Abstract: The complex [Cu 2 (L) 2 (µ 2 -C 2 O 4 )]·CH 3 OH (1) has been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV, ESR and variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurement, where L ϭ 1-(ethylamino)-2-(salicylideneamino)ethane. The crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that complex 1 has a µ 2 -C 2 O 4 2Ϫ bridge. The complex exhibits ferromagnetic couplings between the copper atoms bridged Synthese, Kristallstruktur und Eigenschaften eines zweikernigen Kupfer(II)-Komplexes mit einer OxalatbrückeInhaltsübersicht. “…The [ReCl 4 ox] 2– anion with a chelating oxalato ligand shows no unusual structural features with respect to bond lengths or angles (Table 2). 9,10 A simplified view of the packing of the ions in the elementary cell is illustrated in Figure 5. The [(CuL α ) 2 Cl] 3+ cations are arranged in layers parallel to ab in c = 0 and 1 / 2 , the anions [ReCl 4 ox] 2– and Cl – in c = 1 / 4 and 3 / 4 , respectively.…”

“…In order to emulate the biological activity of metalloproteins, particularly their active sites, various model metal complexes containing Schiff base ligands have been synthesized and studied for their dioxygen uptake (McLendon & Martell, 1976;Niederhoffer et al, 1984;Smith & Pilbrow, 1981;Tovrog et al, 1976;Martell & Sawyer, 1988;Busch & Alcock, 1994) and oxidative catalysis (Holm, 1987;Srinivasan et al, 1986;Dixit & Srinivasan, 1988;Rihter et al, 1993;SriHari & Masnovi, 1990). Recently, our group has studied the synthesis and the magnetic properties of Schiff base complexes (Bian, Gu et al, 2003;Bian, Xu et al, 2003a,b;Bian et al, 2004). We report here a new five-coordinate copper(II) complex with a tridentate Schiff base ligand, which is condensed from N,N-diethylethylenediamine and 2,4dihydroxybenzaldehyde.…”
