Synthesis, crystal structure and characterization of two new organic bismuthate(III) compounds: [C6H18O]2Bi2X10·2H2O (X = Br, Cl)

Abstract: The synthesis and the structures of two new compounds with the general formula [C 6 H 18 N 2 O] 2 Bi 2 X 10-2H 2 O (X = Br, Cl) are reported. They crystallize in the triclinic system and are isostructural. Crystal structures were solved and refined to R = 0.064, 0.048 and R w = 0.15, 0.13 using 3392, 3679 independent reflections for the Cl and Br derivatives, respectively. The atomic arrangement can be described by inorganic chains along the [100] direction. These chains are themselves interconnected by means … Show more

“…Further processes correspond to destruction of the (Me 4 N) 3 [Bi 2 Cl 9 ] chlorometalate "matrix"; it occurs at elevated temperatures and agrees well with literature data. 43,44 It is worth mentioning that enhanced stability of tetraalkylammonium salts was previously noted by us also for dibromine-containing bromotellurates(IV). 45 Most likely, this feature is related to the multiple hydrogen bonds between R 4 N + and dihalogen in the solid state, providing additional stabilization of the structure.…”
