Synthesis, Characterization, Antibacterial, DNA Binding and Cleavage Studies of Mixed Ligand Cu(II), Co(II) Complexes

Abstract: Mixed-ligand Cu(II), Co(II) complexes of formulae [Co(NSALT)(A.A)(H2O)](1), [Co(OHAPT)(A.A)H2O](2), and [Cu(ESALT)(ABPH)H2O] (3) were obtained by refluxing methanol solutions of copper, cobalt chlorides with the appropriate ligands. The complexes were characterized by the ESI-MASS, vibrational spectroscopy (Fourier transform-IR), (1)H-NMR spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, TGA, ESR, SEM and powder XRD. The preliminary DNA-binding activity of the complexes was studied by recording electronic absorption spectra … Show more

“…The mean values of three replicated measurements were used to evaluate the viscosity η of the samples. Data are presented as ( η / η 0 ) 1/2 versus binding ratio of [compound]/[DNA], where η and η 0 are the viscosity of DNA in the absence and presence of compounds.…”

“…Spectrophotometric technique is employed in the following experiments, viz; (i) for the determination of the composition of metal complex by Job's continuous variation and Mole ratio methods, (ii) for the determination of order of reaction in the formation of metal complex and thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy (E a ), entropy change (ΔS * ), free energy change (ΔG * ) and enthalpy change (ΔH * ) [36], (iii) for determination of antioxidant properties using 2, 2diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) by in-vitro assay method [37], (iv) Binding ability of metal complexes with CT-DNA.…”
