Synthesis, characterization and thermal decomposition of poly(decamethylene 2,6-naphthalamide)

Abstract: Abstract.A novel engineering plastic, poly(decamethylene 2,6-naphthalamide) (PA10N) was prepared via a reaction of 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid and 1,10-decanediamine. The structure of synthesized PA10N was characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR). The thermal behavior was determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Melting tempera… Show more

“…At the same time, an obvious transition behavior was observed. It is well known that the glass transition temperature (T g ) of polymers can be determined by this relaxation (a relaxation), since it is usually related to the segment movements in the non-crystalline areas [40,41]. The temperatures of a relaxation of these polyamides were 225 and 248°C (these results were nearly to the DSC data).…”

“…With the increase of IPA content, the characteristic peaks of meta‐disubstituted benzene ring can be found at 822 and 690 cm −1 in all products except PA‐406. Moreover, the peaks at 3309 cm −1 are due to the N–H stretching vibration, and the weak peaks at 3077 cm −1 are attributed to the overtone of the N–H bending vibration …”

“…Based on Table 3, it can be observed that the tensile strength of PA13N is almost as same as that of PA9T [43], PA10N [36], PA11N [37] and PA12N [44] at room temperature.…”

“…The water-absorbing capacity of polydodecamethylene 2,6-naphthalamide (PA12N) was measured according to the same standard, and the result is 0.10. The low water absorption, close to PA9T (0.17), polydecamethylene 2,6-naphthalamide (PA10N) (0.14), polyundecamethylene 2,6-naphthalamide (PA11N) (0.12) and PA12N [35][36][37], is conducive to maintain dimensional and mechanical stability of products.…”
